Supplementing with Kahn Academy

We're all 99.9% genetically identical, but we still learn at different rhythms and in different ways. 

Kahn Academy is a superb tool in helping to differentiate and scaffold for students who are focusing on different skill areas at different times—especially in math. 

It gives us a tool to model and practice active listening and self-leadership, the motivation of gamification, near complete customization, data points and personalization in our learning and establishes and reinforces community across the class as students support each other in their collaborative learning. 

Kahn math journals are awarded as logs, keys to rocketships, each of us starting on our own planets and traversing the mathematical universe collectively and individually. Some explorers will choose to spend more time on one planet than another and we will all stay in communication and support each other throughout our journeys. There are various means of implementing these tools, but generally it serves to boost independent work and ownership for part of the class enabling the other part to break off and study and explore in various groups.
